Frequently asked questions

What is a multi-fibre supplement?

A multi-fibre supplement provides dietary fibre from several sources rather than relying on a sole type of fibre. We combine six complementary and carefully selected fibre sources, including soluble, insoluble, prebiotic and resistant fibres. Together, they provide and excellent source of fibre, providing 10g of dietary fibre in one daily serve.

What do different types of fibre do?

Fibre is not one nutrient performing one function. Individual fibres differ in their solubility, viscosity, fermentability and resistance to digestion and their overall impact on health and the body:

  • Soluble fibre dissolves or disperses in water. Depending on the fibre, it may help retain water in the bowel and may be fermented by gut microorganisms.
  • Insoluble fibre does not dissolve in water. It contributes physical bulk to stool and supports the movement of material through the digestive tract.
  • Viscous fibre is a type of soluble fibre that forms a gel when hydrated. It can slow the movement and absorption of nutrients through the digestive tract.
  • Fermentable fibre reaches the large intestine, where gut microorganisms break it down and produce metabolites, including short-chain fatty acids.
  • Prebiotic fibre is a specific form of fermentable fibre that is selectively used by host microorganisms and has a demonstrated health benefit.
  • Resistant starch escapes digestion in the small intestine and reaches the colon, where it can be fermented by gut microorganisms.
How is a multi-fibre different from psyllium, PHGG or other single fibre products?

Single-fibre supplements concentrate on one fibre with one particular set of properties. Psyllium is a soluble, highly viscous fibre that forms a gel in water and adds bulk to stool. PHGG (partially hydrolysed guar gum) is a soluble prebiotic fibre that is used by microorganisms in the large intestine. Other single-fibre products may contain only inulin, resistant starch, acacia fibre or wheat dextrin.

We take a broader approach. By providing 10g of dietary fibre from six complementary sources, selected to provide a combination of soluble, insoluble, prebiotic and resistant fibres, one scoop source contributes different physical and fermentative properties to support greater diversity in your diet.

Is it gentle, and will it cause bloating?

Formulated using gradually fermented fibres, like Sunfiber, Acacia, it is designed to be easy to introduce into a daily routine.

However, tolerance to fibre varies, if your current fibre intake is low, begin with half a scoop for three to seven days, drink adequate water and increase gradually to a full serve as tolerated.

Does it contain prebiotic fibre?

Yes. Absolutely. It combines four prebiotic fibres at studied daily doses: Sunfiber® partially hydrolysed guar gum, Solnul® resistant potato starch, PreticX® xylo-oligosaccharide and BeniCaros® carrot cRG-I. These sit within a broader seven-source fibre blend providing 10g of dietary fibre per serve.

Prebiotic fibres reach the large intestine and are selectively used by microorganisms already living in the gut, producing a demonstrated health benefit.

Prebiotics are not the same as probiotics. Prebiotics are substrates used by microorganisms; probiotics are live microorganisms.
